Acceptance

Acceptance

Certain items in life have become symbols for and synonymous with (stigmatized?) the aging process.  A cane, cardigan sweater, chain to hold reading glasses – and the dreaded pill organizer case.

But if I can espouse acceptance and realize that this is just another “thing” that is part of the bigger “thing” (Cancer), then there is no need to fear.  Just think of the many advantages.

·         I now have a lot of medications (some preventative and some actual chemo pills) and it’s important to take them regularly/consistently  –  I am trying to be the poster boy for compliance

·         I also now have a lot of doctors and all of the doctors want to know what meds i am on

·         Part of what I need to be aware of, and part of what the various Docs are looking for, is whether one drug that i take could negatively impact another – so it helps with potential adverse drug interactions

·         Those dreaded three words: Refills – Refills - Refills

·         My brain at times succumbs to focus distraction from the various chemicals being pumped into my system, so it helps me remember what day of the week it is (which seems to have an accelerating effect on my treatment progress; times goes by faster)

·         And in the end, does this not allude to the anthem of our generation?

C’mon everyone  . . .  “One pill makes you larger, and one pill makes you small

So I have chosen to embrace the case and move on to a better place, and not worry about saving face or staying in the rat race – instead, taking my meds at a metered pace.  (sorry - couldn't resist)
